The Beginnings of The Missing Piece Foundation started when Ty Powell
was an infant and suffered from several holes in his heart as well
as a heart murmur. Though Ty was not supposed to survive, he did. Through
his convalescence many people helped his family out, and even though
the struggle was both a financial burden as well as an emotional one,
through the help of friends and dedicated organizations like The Missing
Piece Foundation, Ty was able to graduate at the Top of the class from
Yale University, play professional basketball overseas, and live a
healthy life. Because of the gifts and grace that was given to him,
Ty founded The Missing Piece Foundation in the year 2000 with the hopes
of having the same positive impact on children and their families lives
as many of his heroes once did when he was a child. The efforts and
mission of The Missing Piece Foundation was privately funded until
2006 when the foundation applied for and received its tax exempt 501(c)(3)
public charity status.
Currently, The Missing Piece Foundation is doing all it can to empower
children and their families in many capacities throughout the country
and world...never stopping to give their Perfect Piece™
